Once a regular player in folk club sessions, Allan started his playing career opening for the American guitarist Duck Baker at the Kilmarnock Folk Club. He has been featured on Radio Scotland’s Celtic Connections programme, playing some of his own compositions and being interviewed on air.
Allan Y McDougall has played on the Danny Kyle Open Stage, as part of the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and in 2004 and 2005 with the Alans. He has appeared at the Girvan Folk Festival, Tinto Folk festival & Lomond Folk festival, the Houston Folk Club and at the Star Club in Glasgow and he is making a name as an experienced, entertaining and accomplished live performer within the folk-club and coffeehouse scene. He has a residency at the Tchai Ovna teahouse in Glasgow’s West End.
In intimate settings, he provides a well-balanced range of traditional tunes and songs, appropriate to the occasion, whether rousing or charming. Although mainly a solo guitarist, Allan is also the mandolin, bouzouki and tenor banjo player in the Alans folk group [whose first CD – the Houston Sessions” is now available] and is the guitar half of the guitar/flute duo Blawstrum, with Allan Whiteford.
