The Midgierakers are a 5 piece traditional music group based at the University of Glasgow, where 4 of the members are employed. Although we all have very different musical influences (from Progressive Rock to English folk music) we are brought together by a love of traditional music. The band members are all fans of Lunasa, Flook, Session A9, Kan, Lau etc. Whilst we are happy to play relatively straight forward Ceilidh sets, our ‘non-dance’ sets mix interesting time and key signatures. Finding tunes in 7/8, 11/8 and 12/8 etc has become our signature. Some tunes even have time changes every couple of bars! Have a listen to our version of ‘Wrong Foot Forward/Spaghetti Panic’ on soundcloud.
The band is available for Ceilidhs and other events. We have played several formal events at the University of Glasgow (background music for guests), Wedding ceremonies, Community Gala days, Local open stage nights, Celtic Connections (Danny Kyle Stage) and Ceilidhs. Some photos can be found on our Facebook page. Band members are; Kate Griffiths (Fiddle), Brian Smith (Fiddle), John Riddell (Whistles, Pipes), Craig Daly (Bouzouki/Guitar), Roy Henderson (Bass).
