The Sugarboat Reivers offer music rooted in the Scots-language traditions of lowland and eastern Scotland, biased towards songs - from eerie or driving ballads to the (often blackly!) humorous - but spiced with traditional and original tunes, both gentle and foot-stompingly energetic, all presented and reinvented in ways which are creative and often surprising.
The Sugarboat Reivers are: SEYLAN BAXTER: lead vocals, acoustic cello, 5-string electric cello. One of Scotland's best known traditional cellists, Seylan also plays with innovative duo Tattie Jam, and with harper Cheyenne Brown. RUARIDH PRINGLE: lead vocals, guitar, octave mandolin, didgeridoo. A distinctive instrumentalist and a prolific and inventive tune and songwriter, best known for his dark or quirkily humorous songs. He is also one half of Tattie Jam. JON BEWS: 5-string acoustic fiddle, backing vocals. One of Scotland's top traditional fiddlers with a unique style, Jon has performed in bands with international followings such as Malinky, Cantrip, James Yorkston, Burach, Deaf Mutes and King Creosote. CHEYENNE BROWN: harp and electroharp. Also trained at the RSAMD, and a uniquely creative and genre-defying interpreter of traditional music, Cheyenne is best known for her duo work with Seylan Baxter and the international fusion project Homebound.
